Our Self Pay Approach

A "patient first" approach to care

What is a Self Pay practice?

At Athletix, care is provided directly to patients rather than billed through insurance companies.

This allows pricing to be clear and upfront, for your clinician to make care decisions, and for treatment to move forward without unnecessary delays.

Why Athletix uses this model

Over time, insurance requirements have increasingly interfered with patient care, limiting treatment options, delaying decisions, and adding administrative barriers that don’t improve outcomes.

Athletix chose a Self Pay model to protect the clinician and patient relationship and ensure care is guided by what’s best for you, not by insurance rules or reimbursement policies.

What this means for you as a patient

  • Care based on need, not coverage
Your treatment plan is determined by clinical expertise and your goals, not by insurance approvals or limitations.
  • Clear expectations from the start
You’ll know what your care involves and what to expect, without hidden steps or surprise changes driven by coverage issues.
  • Faster access and fewer delays
Without pre-authorizations or billing bottlenecks, care can begin sooner and progress at the pace your condition requires.
  • More focused, personalized care
Less time spent on paperwork means more time spent understanding your condition and guiding your recovery.

Using HSA and FSA cards

Athletix gladly accepts HSA and FSA cards for all services.

Many patients choose to use their Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account to pay for care. This allows you to use pre-tax dollars for your treatment while still benefiting from the flexibility and transparency of the Self Pay model.

If you have questions about using your HSA or FSA card, our team is happy to help you understand how it works.

Who this approach is often a good fit for

This model commonly works well for:

  • Patients who value clarity and transparency
  • Those with high deductible insurance plans
  • Self-insured individuals or employers
  • Health sharing ministry members
  • Anyone who wants care decisions made without insurance interference

Most patients appreciate the simplicity and control this approach provides.

Using insurance where appropriate

Athletix does not bill insurance directly for services.

However, insurance may still be used for services provided by separate entities, such as imaging centers, surgery centers, anesthesia providers, or physical therapy clinics, depending on your situation.

We’re always happy to explain how this works and what to expect.

The bottom line

This approach exists for one reason:

To deliver thoughtful, timely, high quality care without insurance getting in the way of your recovery.

If you’re wondering whether this model is right for you, we’re happy to talk it through and answer any questions you have.
